The passionate students leading NAMI on Campus at MSU
Tyron Bucad
I helped form NAMI-MSU because mental health should be accessible to everyone. Like many students, I've experienced the overwhelming pressure and high expectations of campus life, and how isolating it feels to struggle in silence. Those experiences shaped my understanding of the importance of open, honest conversations about mental health. By actively combating stigma, NAMI-MSU creates a community where students can feel safe expressing themselves and sharing the hardships they've faced. Serving as president allows me to help foster that space. I continue to learn about mental health, help empower students to speak openly, support one another, and advocate for a culture where people can feel safe, supported, and understood.

I joined NAMI On Campus because I have a strong desire to de-stigmatize mental health and make it a topic that people feel comfortable discussing. I was drawn to NAMI's goal of normalizing these discussions and raising awareness on campus because mental health is frequently misinterpreted or treated as a taboo subject. I hope to create a supportive environment where people can connect and learn more about mental health, even though our meetings might not always involve in-depth discussions.

I joined NAMI-MSU to help provoke myself into mental health awareness. I originally thought to strive myself to study study study but through NAMI-MSU, I can do my best and actively participate in destigmatization and working with my fellow E-Board members as secretary.

My passion for mental health advocacy is what has pushed me to put in my effort in destigmatizing conversations around mental health in every community I've been involved in for a long time and now through NAMI-MSU. I've seen firsthand what it's like when mental health is looked past and I've also learned how meaningful it is when you find that safe space where your well-being is prioritized. I'm so grateful for the people I've met through NAMI-MSU and the journey we've been on together and working towards this shared goal of ours. This is such a relevant topic and I hope to help do my part in impacting even a few people and creating a ripple effect where mental health conversations are more understanding in the future.

As an MSU student, I joined NAMI because I am passionate about promoting mental health awareness and creating a supportive campus environment. As the Marketing Chair, I use my creativity and communication skills to design promotional materials, event posts, and increase engagement for NAMI events and initiatives. I wanted to contribute in a way that helps normalize conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and ensure students feel informed, welcomed, and supported. This role allows me to combine advocacy with leadership while making a meaningful impact on the MSU community.

I joined NAMI-MSU because I've seen firsthand how dangerous the mental health crisis can be and how it affects everybody. I hope to achieve a world one day where the mental health conversation isn't just destigmatized, but featured as the vital aspect of our lives. As the Event coordinator for NAMI-MSU, I wish to be the one to directly create spaces for those conversations to take place, on the MSU campus and do whatever I can to spread awareness on the mental health crisis for our student body.
